■ In men and nonpregnant females as a tumor marker to aid in
diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma, testicular tumor, ovarian
cancer. May be elevated in alcoholic cirrhosis.
■ In pregnancy to detect fetal neural tube defect, multiple pregnancy,
fetal distress, fetal death.
